Chelsea completed a league and FA Cup double for the first time in their history on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Portsmouth at Wembley.Something which hasn happened in BPL for the last eight years .
A superb strike from Drogba sealed the win in the 59th minute but both sides had several chances to score in one of most entertaining FA Cup finals of recent years.
After winning the Premier League last weekend, Chelsea came into the game as strong favourites to defend the cup they claimed last year, but relegated Portsmouth - themselves the winners of the Cup two years ago - had hopes of ending a disappointing season on a high.
In an extraordinary first half, Chelsea came close to score five times but could not break the deadlock. Kalou had the simplest of the chances, but the striker somehow managed to hit the crossbar from just two metres out.
After all the missed chances, it was perhaps no surprise that it was Portsmouth who almost opened the scoring early in the second half. Aruna Dindane was brought down by a clear foul by Juliano Belletti but Kevin Prince Boateng’s penalty was saved by the legs of goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Just moments later, Chelsea took full advantage of the miss as Drogba struck a superb free-kick through a gap in Portsmouth’s defensive wall. The ball flew past goalkeeper David James and into the net off the inside of the far post. Lampard had a chance to increase the lead ,but his penalty shot was wide .
John Terry should be the most happiest person in the team after coach CA . Being the centre of many off ground controversies , he is finally doing good .
Only Ballack should be feeling bad as he wont be able to play the world cup this year as he got injured .
