The biggest sporting event after the olympics , the FIFA World CUP, will be kicked off in a few hours in Johannesburg - JSC . Its the first time that a football world sup is being held in Africa . It is the ninteenth World cup till date, The first one being held in 1930 .
A total of 32 teams will battle it out in this edition to be crowned the world champions , the defending champions are ITALY.
The matches would be played across ten world class stadiums all across south africa .
The mascot for this event is called "Zakumi" and the ball to be played with is called "Jabulani"which means "bringing joy to everyone" .The number eleven plays a prominent role in the new technologically advanced ball: it is the eleventh World Cup match ball made by the German sports equipment maker, Adidas; it features eleven colours, one for each player on the pitch; and there are eleven official Languages in South Africa. The event will also start on the eleventh day of June and end on the eleventh day of July.
